Riddle

Could I remember you, fully?

I will try, here.

Do I exist somewhere deep and hidden from you?

I hear your whisper

don’t I?

You are full of questions that unfold outside themselves into deeper and deeper sighs

A drop in a pond

That ripples

And bends

And distorts

And I know you too well, I know I do

But you are so far away from me

You are echoing

You are reborn and remaking yourself

And I am always two steps away from you

Yet never closer

You are inside of me

Who are you? Who are you?

And somehow you are perfect

And I am writing everything I feel and I am never scratching the surface

You are immortal

Etched in the caverns of my side

Forever

My body will whisper your name

In the hollows

And the creeks

The little spaces where I allow myself to run wild

I don’t know you

And I probably never will

But I know your name

And it is a beautiful sound

I might be afraid of you for the rest of my life and you might simply be a warm hug

My mama’s hesitant smile
